When thousands of people donate no more than $100 per person per election, we can build a campaign without money from special interests. _______________________ But it's about more than money. We need your energy and your enthusiasm, too. Sign up to volunteer on Jim Hansen's campaign for Congress.

| Trade pact is bad for jobs, environment |

Rep. Mike Simpson voted July 20 for a trade agreement that
favors the profits of large corporations over the jobs and wages of the
middle class and the environment. The companies that will profit, such
as pharmaceuticals, make huge donations to members of Congress to
ensure such protection. The Oman Free Trade Agreement is full of
provisions opposed by many Americans. Hundreds of religious,
environmental, labor, human rights and consumer groups urged Congress
to say “no.” Instead, Americans got a deal that allows foreign
governments to own U.S. ports, even though the public said loudly and
clearly just a few months ago that this did not fit with their concept
of greater security against terrorism, Hansen said. Like other
U.S. trade pacts, this one will send good jobs overseas, do nothing to
improve conditions for workers overseas (many of them living in
poverty) and allow businesses to exploit natural resources where they
can skirt rules intended to protect land, air and water, Hansen said.
