When thousands of people donate no more than $100 per person per election, we can build a campaign without money from special interests. _______________________ But it's about more than money. We need your energy and your enthusiasm, too. Sign up to volunteer on Jim Hansen's campaign for Congress.

Members of Congress have become so obsessed with raising money to protect their political jobs that they have worked fewer days and accomplished less than any other Congress, said Jim Hansen, a candidate for Idaho’s 2nd District seat. “This Congress will have worked the fewest days in 60 years and raised the most campaign money in history,” Hansen said. “As a result, this ‘special-interest’ Congress has ignored the issues Americans care about most, such as education, health care, jobs and wages.” Congress is scheduled to begin a monthlong summer recess on Aug. 1 and to adjourn for the year on Oct. 6. When they are in Washington, members generally work from Tuesday to Thursday afternoon and spend the rest of their time raising money for their next campaign, Hansen said. The House scheduled 96 legislative days this year, far less than the previous low of 110. Congress also set a new record for campaign financing. Congressional campaigns had raised a total of $657 million through March 31, according to the Federal Election Commission. “It is not the House of Representatives anymore, it’s the House of Fund-Raisers,” Hansen said. “When incumbents build huge war chests, it is practically impossible to have the competitive elections our Founding Fathers envisioned for our democracy.”
